Choosing a partner – business and pleasure

What do you look for when choosing a partner?  When we think about the attributes we look for in our perfect partner in our personal life, why should they be any different from those that we look for in our business partners?

Choosing the right consulting and implementation partner can make or break project success.  It goes without saying that a partner should tick all the boxes in terms of experience, expertise and processes but it is often the people and their values which have most impact on the delivery experience:

Reliability – Can you trust them to do what they say they are going to do?

Honesty – Will they be completely truthful even if it may be something you don’t want to hear?

Transparency – Will they let you know exactly where you are at all times and have nothing to hide?

Passion – Do they demonstrate enthusiasm and expertise to give you full confidence that you have made a good choice?

Commitment – Will they stick by you when the going gets tough to ensure that your satisfaction is their top priority?

Of course, in both business and pleasure, it can be difficult to evaluate the qualities of a potential partner before you embark on a new relationship.  But if you find down the line that you are not completely happy, you can always keep looking until you find ‘the one’.
